Your actual CRS score is calculated by IRCC when you submit an Express Entry profile and can differ from this estimate — for example if a credential is assessed at a different level, work experience does not meet the full-time skilled definition, or test results expire. IRCC’s own CRS tool is authoritative. This tool does not store your answers; a shared link simply carries them in the address.

Methodology

How this is calculated

Every table is transcribed from IRCC’s published CRS criteria. Where we could not double-check a value, we say so rather than guess.

A. Core / human capital (max 500 alone, 460 with a partner)

Age (max 110/100), education (max 150/140), first official language per ability (max 136/128), second official language (max 24/22) and Canadian work experience (max 80/70). Points for a first-language ability start at CLB 4; CLB 9 and 10 pay the most.

B. Spouse or common-law partner (max 40)

Your partner’s education (max 10), first-language ability (max 20) and Canadian work experience (max 10). These only apply when your partner accompanies you and is not already a citizen or permanent resident.

C. Skill transferability (max 100)

Two 50-point groups: education combined with language (CLB 7+ or CLB 9+) and Canadian work; foreign work combined with language and Canadian work; plus a certificate of qualification combined with language (CLB 5+ or CLB 7+). Each pair pays 13/25 or 25/50 depending on the tier.

D. Additional points (max 600)

Provincial nomination 600; French NCLC 7+ on all four abilities 25 (English CLB 4 or lower) or 50 (English CLB 5+ on all four); Canadian post-secondary credential 15 (one or two years) or 30 (three years or longer); a sibling in Canada 15. Arranged employment was removed on 25 March 2025.

Language conversions and what we flag as unverified

IELTS General Training and CELPIP-General conversions follow IRCC’s long-standing charts. PTE Core bands are the ones published when the test was accepted (January 2024); TEF Canada uses the post-December-2023 0–699 scale; TCF Canada uses 0–699 for reading and listening and 0–20 for writing and speaking. If a score sits on a band boundary, confirm it on IRCC’s equivalency page before relying on it.

What is a CRS score?

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the points formula IRCC uses to rank every profile in the Express Entry pool. It scores age, education, official-language ability, work experience, a spouse’s skills, how those factors combine, and additional factors such as a provincial nomination or French ability, out of a maximum of 1,200 points.

What is the minimum CRS score to get an invitation?

There is no fixed minimum. Each draw sets its own cut-off: the lowest score invited in that round. General draws have recently required scores in the low-to-mid 500s, while category-based draws (French, healthcare, trades, STEM, agriculture) and provincial draws often invite much lower scores. How can I raise my CRS score?

The biggest levers are a provincial nomination (600 points), improving language scores (CLB 9+ unlocks large skill-transferability points), reaching NCLC 7 in French (25 to 50 bonus points), gaining a year of Canadian work experience, completing a Canadian credential, and, if you have a partner, improving their language results or applying without them if that scores higher.

Does a job offer still count for CRS points?

No. IRCC removed the 50 and 200 arranged-employment points on 25 March 2025. A job offer can still matter for eligibility under the Federal Skilled Trades Program, for the Federal Skilled Worker 67-point grid, and for many provincial nominee streams, but it no longer adds CRS points.
