How it works
About the dedicated health care pathway
This pathway has two tracks. One runs inside Alberta Express Entry and the other inside the Alberta Opportunity Stream. If you can build an Express Entry profile with a CRS score of 300 or more, you must use the Express Entry track; the non-Express Entry track is only for people who cannot. Alberta selects candidates from its worker expression of interest pool in draws with no set schedule, and set aside 518 nominations for the pathway in 2026.
Applying from outside Canada: Alberta's page does not say whether you can apply from outside Canada; the work permit condition applies only to people already working in Alberta. Confirm with the AAIP before applying from abroad.

Requirements
What this stream asks for
- A valid job offer from an Alberta health sector employer with Workers' Compensation Board coverage, in an eligible occupation: physician, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, clinical social worker or psychologist
- Proof that you meet the minimum requirements of the Alberta regulator for your profession (for example CPSA, CRNA or CLPNA)
- Express Entry track: an active Express Entry profile with a CRS score of 300 or more, eligible for the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker or Federal Skilled Trades program
- Non-Express Entry track: CLB 5 in all skills, or the level your Alberta licence requires, shown by Alberta licensure or an approved test taken less than two years ago
- If you already work in Alberta on the non-Express Entry track, a valid work permit or maintained status
- Intent to live and work permanently in Alberta, and no active AAIP nomination under any stream
Programme
The Alberta programme right now
Open, with no structural overhaul. Changes this year have been administrative: a fee to submit a worker expression of interest from April 2026, editable profiles from May, and an extra 200 nominations in August taking the year's allocation to 6,603.
Alberta's only expired streams are the employer-driven and strategic recruitment categories, which ended in 2018. Note that Alberta does not stamp its stream pages with a last-updated date, and one page still refers to priorities for 2024 and early 2025, so treat undated Alberta detail with care.
Official AAIP page Official draw results
Checked against the province's own pages on September 11, 2026. Streams change through the year, so confirm on the official page before you apply.
