Applying from Bangladesh
Study Permit for applicants from Bangladesh
The rules for a Canadian study permit are the same in every country. What changes for applicants from Bangladesh is the checklist the responsible visa office publishes, the financial documents it expects, where you give biometrics, and whether you need a medical exam or a police certificate. This page covers those differences, each with its official source.

What is different for applicants from Bangladesh
- Bangladesh applications are handled under the Singapore visa office's instructions (IMM 5850), used with the general study permit checklist (IMM 5483).
- Include police certificates for every country where you lived 6 months or more in a row since age 18.
- Show at least 4 months of bank history with a written explanation of where the funds came from, plus parents' employment letters or 2 years of income tax records (business owners add registration, 2 years of business tax and audited statements).
- Provide notarized copies of university or college diplomas and transcripts.
- IRCC highly recommends Academic IELTS results taken within the last year. Proof of funds: IRCC's current living-cost figure for one student outside Quebec is CAN$23,448 a year plus tuition and travel (applications on or after 1 September 2026); any older dollar figure printed in a visa office checklist is superseded by the IRCC website.
Biometrics, medical and police
Biometrics, medical exam and police certificate
- Biometrics
Give biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a visa application centre in Dhaka, Chittagong or Sylhet after paying the biometrics fee; biometrics given for a visitor visa or study permit stay valid for 10 years, and IRCC cannot issue a visa or permit beyond their expiry date.
Visa application centres: Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet.
Official IRCC page- Medical exam
Bangladesh is on IRCC's list of countries where an immigration medical exam is required for stays over 6 months, so most study permit applicants (and visitors staying more than 6 months, including super visa applicants) need an exam by an IRCC panel physician; your own doctor cannot do it. Find a panel physician.
Official IRCC page- Police certificate
The Singapore visa office study checklist asks study permit applicants to include original police certificates for each country where they lived 6 consecutive months or longer since age 18. The visitor checklist does not list one upfront. IRCC asks for the scanned original certificate with seal and signature.
Bangladesh's certificate: Police Clearance Certificate (Bangladesh Police (apply online)).
