Study Permit for applicants from Egypt

The rules for a Canadian study permit are the same in every country. What changes for applicants from Egypt is the checklist the responsible visa office publishes, the financial documents it expects, where you give biometrics, and whether you need a medical exam or a police certificate. This page covers those differences, each with its official source.

Applying from Egypt

What is different for applicants from Egypt

  • Cairo visa office checklist (IMM 5824, February 2026) used with IMM 5483; two signed and dated photos per applicant.
  • Proof of funds for at least one year, convertible to Canadian dollars: sponsor undertaking, scholarships, investments or rental income, and bank statements covering several months.
  • A one-page study plan answering IRCC's set questions, and a CV if you left full-time studies more than 2 years ago.
  • Egypt is not on IRCC's medical-exam country list, so a medical is not automatically required for a long stay.
  • Egypt was not part of the former Student Direct Stream. Proof of funds: IRCC's current living-cost figure for one student outside Quebec is CAN$23,448 a year plus tuition and travel (applications on or after 1 September 2026); any older dollar figure printed in a visa office checklist is superseded by the IRCC website.

Biometrics, medical and police

Biometrics, medical exam and police certificate

Biometrics

Give biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a visa application centre in Cairo after paying the biometrics fee; biometrics given for a visitor visa or study permit stay valid for 10 years, and IRCC cannot issue a visa or permit beyond their expiry date.

Visa application centres: Cairo.

Medical exam

Egypt is not on IRCC's medical-exam country list, so a stay over 6 months generally needs an exam only if you lived 6 months or more in a listed country in the past year, will work in a job where public health must be protected, or apply for a super visa; exams must be done by an IRCC panel physician.

Official IRCC page
Police certificate

IRCC does not list a police certificate as an upfront requirement for a visitor visa or for a study permit from this visa office; IRCC may ask for one during processing, for example if you declare a criminal record.

Egypt's certificate: Criminal Record (Egyptian police (apply in person at your local police station; abroad, at an Egyptian embassy or consulate)).
