How it works

About the skilled worker overseas

A connection to the province is mandatory, whatever your score: a close relative or friend settled in Manitoba, past study or work in the province, or a direct invitation from the province itself. Read the note below before relying on this route.

Applying from outside Canada: Meeting the published criteria is not currently enough. In every draw we checked from May to September 2026, Manitoba considered Skilled Worker profiles only from candidates it had invited directly under a strategic recruitment initiative or the federal work-permit public policy. A candidate whose only connection is a supporting relative can submit a profile, but on recent evidence is not being drawn.

Requirements

What this stream asks for

  • One of three connections: a supporting relative or friend resident in Manitoba for at least a year, six months of past Manitoba work or a completed programme there, or a direct invitation from the province
  • At least 60 points across language, age, work experience, education and adaptability
  • Language at CLB 4 as a minimum where the occupation is TEER 4 or 5, with a test less than two years old
  • A settlement plan, and settlement funds

OpenManitoba Provincial Nominee Program

Open and drawing roughly monthly. The Career Employment Pathway for Manitoba graduates is being wound down: in June 2026 the province invited its candidates to move across to the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway, and no draw has selected that pathway since. Manitoba has not used the word closed, and its criteria page is still published.

Manitoba excludes several groups from every pathway: refugee claimants, live-in caregivers in Canada, temporary workers living in another province, spouses of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and anyone with an active application to another provincial or federal programme. Holding an Express Entry profile does not count as an application.
